Huang Hailian is a female craft artist and a member of the Shanghai Craft Artists Association. Born in August 1973, she graduated from the Textile College of Shanghai University of Engineering Science in 1995 with a bachelor's degree in textile engineering.
From a young age, Huang Hailian has had a deep affection for traditional Chinese painting of beautiful women and Chinese culture. As a deaf-mute artist, she pursues artistic beauty in a world of silence, dedicating her extraordinary focus and keen visual perception entirely to her brushwork.
She initially worked in fashion design and web design before apprenticing under Xia Zhongyong, a master of ceramic painting from Jingdezhen, Jiangxi, where she systematically studied the techniques of overglaze enamel and famille rose . Specializing in the meticulous brushwork style of depicting elegant women, her figures are vivid and graceful, with refined lines and harmonious, elegant colors. She draws particular inspiration from traditional cultural treasures such as Dunhuang art, skillfully integrating classical charm with modern ceramic aesthetics.
While exploring her art, Huang Hailian actively engages in public welfare, inspiring others through her own experiences. In 2014, she led a team from the Shanghai Changning District Disabled Artists' Chinese Painting Institute to create portrait ceramic plates for the "Fourth Annual Touching Shanghai Figures," using art to convey respect and warmth, demonstrating both profound skill and a strong sense of social responsibility.
Her works have consistently achieved outstanding results in national craft art exhibitions: in 2011, her ceramic piece All Flowers in Bloom won the Bronze Award at the "12th Chinese Master Craft Artists' Works & International Art Treasures Expo"; in 2017, her work Dunhuang Dance Scene from the Five Dynasties Period received the Silver Award for Chinese Craft Art Masterpieces at the 18th Chinese Master Craft Artists Expo ("Baihua Cup").
With silent yet powerful inner strength, Huang Hailian overcomes obstacles to deepen her artistic practice. Her artistic journey is not only a continuous exploration of classical themes but also a profound cultivation of using the brush to communicate with the world and interpret life through beauty, forming a unique artistic style that blends traditional spirit, modern aesthetics, and humanistic warmth.
